Welcome to Crofton House
Founded in 1898 by educational pioneer Dr. Jessie Gordon, Crofton House School was built on the belief in the transformative power of knowledge. Dr. Gordon envisioned a school where young women could step beyond gender and achieve their full potential — a philosophy that has guided CHS for more than a century.
Why You’ll Love It Here
At Crofton House School, girls are inspired to pursue personal excellence from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. The enriched curriculum supports whole-child development, led by caring, enthusiastic teachers.
Learning is brought to life through engaging lessons, field trips, technology integration and strong partnerships with families. Teachers benefit from professional development, competitive compensation above the public school grid and a supportive school community.
Faculty also have access to research chair opportunities, personalized growth plans and a collaborative environment that encourages learning and innovation.
What We Value
Our mission is to inspire girls to discover and pursue personal excellence. Guided by the values of courage, creativity and citizenship, we believe every student holds extraordinary potential.
Our vision of “extraordinary possibilities” reflects our commitment to a complete education — one that prepares graduates to carry their Crofton House experience into the world with confidence and purpose.
What Makes Us Unique
Junior School students begin French in Grade 1 and benefit from specialist teachers in art, music, French and physical education. Senior School students can choose enriched and accelerated options, including Advanced Placement courses.
Our signature program, Ivy Compass, extends learning beyond the classroom through outdoor education, workplace experience, global travel and volunteer opportunities. Students also take on increasing leadership roles as they progress.
At CHS, we encourage participation in athletics, performing arts and a wide range of clubs and activities that enrich school life.
Our School Community
Crofton House includes a Junior School (Kindergarten to Grade 7) and Senior School (Grades 8 to 12). In the Junior School, play and creativity are paired with strong literacy and numeracy foundations. Students learn in well-equipped centres and enjoy a secure outdoor play area.
The Senior School offers an enriched curriculum that meets or exceeds the B.C. Ministry of Education graduation requirements. Exposure to fine arts and applied skills complements academic rigour and prepares students for post-secondary success.
A vibrant co-curricular program fosters diverse interests and lasting friendships. The campus features gardens, wooded play areas, walking paths and Kent Field — providing balance to classroom learning.
Quiet and Convenient
CHS is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood, 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver and easily accessible by multiple bus routes. UBC is five minutes away, with art galleries, museums and community centres nearby.
There is no shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy in Vancouver and its nearby areas. Paddleboarding, hiking, skiing and beach outings are all within reach, and Whistler is less than two hours away.
