Are you a passionate educator ready to make a real difference? British Columbia is searching for qualified teachers like you to join our vibrant school communities.

Throughout the 2025/26 school year, Make a Future will visit various Canadian Education Career Fairs in BC and throughout the country. Career fairs offer new graduates and established educators the chance to meet face-to-face with Make a Future, to build connections and learn more about what's available in BC.

Districts and Independent schools love meeting teacher candidates at fairs because this gives them the chance to connect with potential employees before the application process begins. Some districts use fairs as an opportunity to encourage certain candidates to apply and may even offer them an interview on the spot.

Make a Future attends career fairs to represent education jobs in schools across the province, including Public, Independent, Offshore and First Nations schools. While we do not directly hire for these roles, we help interested potential employees connect with districts and discover the many rewarding opportunities in BC education.

Looking for a secure career with long-term benefits? We got you. BC schools throughout the province need a range of dedicated employees to help ensure the success of students in BC.

Teaching and education assistants usually come to mind when we think of education careers, but there are countless opportunities for those working in trades, clerical, custodial roles, IT, accounting, payroll and more.

While teachers and EAs are in demand throughout the province, support staff who help BC schools run smoothly are also highly sought after.

What to Expect from an Education Career

Along with the opportunity to provide productive, full-time support, these positions offer extended health and dental benefits and a first-rate pension.

Some roles mean supporting the district administration at the senior level, while others involve working directly inside schools.

But they all deliver the chance to support student learning in creating safe, functional learning environments.

Flexible Work Arrangements for Casual On-Call Staff

Support Careers in BC Schools

  • Trades Staff - Both skilled and unskilled trades do school maintenance and repairs. Carpenters, plumbers, electricians, gas fitters, HVAC technicians, horticulturists, painters, mechanics, and other trades assist districts with minor repairs to major renovations of school district facilities. Other trades include janitors, custodians, grounds people and general labourers.
  • Office and Clerical Staff School secretary, clerk typist, office assistant, receptionist, dispatch clerk roles – these positions provide clerical and general office assistance to support the functioning of districts and schools.
  • Custodians and Building Service Workers School custodians clean and maintain the upkeep and safety of schools and district facilities. They may work shifts in the morning, evening, weekends, or overnight. A custodian's work is often independent, though they also work with maintenance and facilities department staff, school district employees, students and the public.
  • IT Techs Responsible for maintaining and technologically supporting school district communications networks and information systems. Positions within the Information Technology department include information technology manager, computer systems technician, network systems analyst, IT technologist and district computer systems technician.
  • Accounting and Payroll Staff – Payroll, finance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, accounting clerks, and other related positions perform a variety of tasks and duties pertaining to the accounting functions and maintenance of school district payroll records and reports.
  • Bus Drivers - Operate the school buses, transporting students to and from school and related events and ensuring the bus is maintained and operated safely and hygienically. This is a good fit for individuals looking for part-time work and for those who prefer to work short shifts in the morning and afternoon.

Destination Canada 2023 Mobility Forum

Make a Future, British Columbia's Ministry of Education, and several school districts will be showcasing at Destination Canada Mobility Forum 2023 in France and Morocco this month. Destination Canada is an annual event organized by the Canadian Government to attract French-speaking professionals to Canada's Francophone communities.

Make a Future's purpose at Destination Canada is to represent British Columbia's K-12 education system. Our goal is to meet with internationally-trained teachers and introduce them to the hundreds of teaching opportunities available across the province while highlighting the beautiful and diverse communities that make BC attractive to millions of international visitors every year.

British Columbia's Education Sector: A Thriving Hub

Thousands of teachers relocate to BC every year, contributing to its vibrant and diverse community. Nicolas Baudouin, the French Consul General in Vancouver, praises British Columbia's quality of life and economic vitality, as noted by Le Figaro France. Francophone Newspaper Courier International describes British Columbia as a diverse province with an abundance of opportunities not just in Vancouver but also in Vancouver Island, the Okanagan Valley and the North.

B.C.'s vast landscapes and city centres

Diverse Career Opportunities

The Canadian education system provides a wide range of career opportunities. As Make a Future is actively seeking French teachers who can contribute to the flourishing French education programs in British Columbia, making a meaningful impact in this dynamic environment.

A Welcoming Environment

Canada's education system is renowned for its inclusive and diverse atmosphere. Teaching in such a welcoming environment provides an enriching experience, as educators can learn from students and colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Destination Canada Mobility Forum: A Gateway to Educational Opportunities

Make a Future is proud to represent BC's education sector at Destination Canada Mobility Forum 2023, forging connections between prospective francophone teachers and school districts across BC. We are here to guide talented francophone educators and help them navigate the path to rewarding teaching careers.

With career opportunities in every corner of the province, an excellent life-work balance, and an inclusive environment, British Columbia offers a unique platform for educators to grow and thrive.

Apply today! Teachers, support staff and senior managers – and more are being sought after for the coming year.

As summer winds down, you can feel back-to-school energy in the air – and with it comes some prime opportunities for those seeking careers in BC schools.

There's plenty of good news for job seekers as this fall offers new and dynamic positions throughout the province. Schools are actively hiring teachers, principals, business professionals, tradespeople, maintenance staff and education assistants.

Teaching Jobs in BC

From the rocky coastline neighbourhoods of Vancouver Island to the breathtaking ancient forests of Northern BC, the vibrant hubs of Metro Vancouver to the quiet-yet-convenient communities of the Fraser Valley, the scenic hills of the Okanagan to the raw, rugged beauty of the Kootenay region, every corner of BC needs new and experienced teachers to help develop learners.

Many schools in these same areas are seeking French Immersion teachers and other staff for the coming year to help support bilingual learners in the K-12 system.

There are more than 1,000 teaching positions on the makeafuture.ca site, and they are as varied as the locations in which they are based. As an added benefit, some communities in Northern British Columbia are offering signing and retention incentives.

Education Support Staff in High Demand

Along with teaching jobs in BC, support staff roles, such as Education Assistants (EAs), youth workers and Indigenous support workers, are in demand to assist students and provide vital support towards inclusivity in education.

Beyond teaching and administration, school districts need individuals for vital non-teaching roles, such as bus drivers, maintenance staff and custodians, all of which are essential for student learning success and safety.

Lots of Communities to Choose From

Those coming to BC to work in the education field seek various opportunities. Some opt for positions in smaller communities where they can significantly impact and plant roots, others love the convenience of life in larger cities to deliver education close to the best of art and culture. But what they all have in common is the desire for secure employment and rewarding, long-term careers.
