Why You’ll Love It Here

Discovery School is one of B.C.’s few Ministry of Education–designated special education schools. We serve 75 students with the support of 25 staff and five specialized therapists, offering small classes and strong student–teacher relationships.

With a 10:1 student–teacher ratio and an education assistant in every class, our team creates a supportive, individualized learning environment where students can thrive.

Teachers find their work deeply rewarding, watching students overcome challenges, reach milestones and graduate while forming lasting bonds with both students and colleagues.

What We Value

As a non-denominational school guided by Christian values and virtues, Discovery School is dedicated to nurturing the whole child. Small class sizes and specialized learning strategies support students who may struggle in a traditional classroom.

We believe great teachers drive great learning. Staff receive fully funded professional development, including workshops, conferences and opportunities to participate in provincial and ministry-led initiatives.

At Discovery, we value meaningful student–teacher relationships, diverse teaching styles and a shared commitment to continuous growth and lifelong learning.

What Makes Us Unique

Our program focuses on building academic skills in a nurturing, student-centred environment. Individual education plans are developed for each student, allowing them to work at their own level and pace in academic, adapted or modified special education programs.

While the curriculum includes science, social studies, P.E., fine arts, computer education and applied skills, we place strong emphasis on core subjects such as math and English. We also prioritize self-esteem, organization, work habits and learning strategies to support overall student growth.

We value educators who bring diverse teaching styles and techniques to the classroom. Staff receive ongoing training in a range of instructional programs, allowing learning approaches to be tailored to each student’s unique needs and preferences.
