District Overview

We are a learning community where positive relationships are modeled and nurtured. We believe that learning requires the active participation of the learner, is an individual and a social process and occurs in varying ways and at different rates. Inclusive schools, unique and diverse programs, quality instruction and a strong professional learning community have led to excellent results and a positive environment for everyone.

Why You’ll Love It Here

At Saanich Schools, we are driven by the goal of helping every student thrive.

We offer dynamic, challenging, and engaging educational programs in a safe, supportive environment, empowering over 8,000 learners to achieve their personal best and prepare for a bright future.

What We Value

Our school district includes 18 schools with one clear goal: delivering high-quality education so students can achieve their personal aspirations, from post-secondary studies to careers across Canada and around the world. More than 1,300 dedicated staff work every day to turn those dreams into reality.

What Makes Us Unique

We value strong relationships with our local communities, including the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nation, on whose traditional territory we live, work and learn. Together, we build schools where students thrive and grow. Saanich Schools reflects the best in teaching and learning within a diverse community supported by caring professionals and families.

Our district offers a wide range of programs, including K-12 French immersion and French as a second language, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), trades training in partnership with Camosun College, distance education, an international program for Grades 8 to 12, athletics academies for Grades 9 to 12, performing arts and extracurricular athletics.

Our School Community

Serving the Saanich Peninsula, just north of Victoria, B.C., our district has one of the highest graduation rates in the province and a student body that consistently performs well on annual assessments.

This success is due in large part to the dedication and hard work of more than 1,300 teaching and support staff.

Life on the Island

The Saanich Peninsula is one of Canada’s most desirable places to live or visit, known for its quality of life and mild climate. This rural community stretches from Royal Oak to the B.C. Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay.

Surrounded by farmland, ocean and forest, it offers beaches, farm stands, and hiking and biking trails. Shopping is close at hand in local communities or a short drive into Victoria. Residents enjoy year-round golfing, boating and gardening, easy access to winter sports and proximity to both Victoria and Vancouver.
