Welcome to STMC
St. Thomas More Collegiate (STMC) is a Catholic co-educational independent secondary school (Grades 8 – 12), in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, that has offered young men and women from throughout British Columbia’s Lower Mainland an extraordinary education and a second home for almost six decades.
Since 1960, when three Christian Brothers opened the school to 125 Knights, STMC has helped shape thousands of young minds and touched the lives of their families.
Why You’ll Love It Here
St. Thomas More Collegiate (STMC) is a leader in academics, athletics, arts and advocacy. Ranked among the top 10 per cent of B.C. secondary schools by the Fraser Institute, STMC offers a strong academic foundation, with 99 per cent of students graduating and more than 85 per cent pursuing post-secondary education.
Beyond academics, STMC builds character, faith and community, giving students a second home where they learn pride, responsibility and service. Students lead in philanthropy locally and globally, and graduates continue this commitment as leaders and engaged citizens.
Founded by the Christian Brothers, STMC honours Blessed Edmund Rice’s vision by welcoming students of all faiths, races and socio-economic backgrounds.

What Makes Us Unique
St. Thomas More Collegiate builds well-rounded students through a foundation in faith, academics, athletics, arts and sciences. Campus Ministry supports spiritual growth through prayer, liturgies, retreats and service opportunities.
Our fine arts program includes more than 460 students in choir or band, both nationally recognized. Students also engage in enrichment opportunities such as physics competitions and Beamline research.
STMC is a competitive force in athletics, offering senior-level programs in football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, wrestling, lacrosse, curling, golf, track and field, ultimate frisbee and girls’ soccer.
Our School Community
STMC is a hybrid of an independent Catholic school and a true independent school. Rooted in the legacy of the Christian Brothers, the school fosters a strong sense of community — described by visitors as something that can be felt the moment you walk through the doors.
Our culture is represented by the Knight’s Cross, a symbol of STMC’s holistic approach to faith-based teaching and learning. STMC offers a safe, disciplined environment, diverse learning opportunities and a welcoming atmosphere that encourages active involvement from students and families.
